What is Making Tax Digital (MTD)?

MTD – is a government initiative starting in April 2026.
Must keep digital records – excel, accounting software – basically NOT written bookkeeping.
Must submit data quarterly – either via approved accounting software or via ourselves

Who Does MTD Affect?

MTD affects self-employed and landlords – companies and partnerships not affected.

Please see table below to see when you will need to comply by:

From 1st April 2026 – self-employed IF income (not profit) greater than £50,000 a year
From 1st April 2026 – rental income greater than £50,000 a year
From 1st April 2027 – self-employed IF income (not profit) greater than £30,000 a year
From 1st April 2027 – rental income greater than £30,000 a year
